Show is in the pink to help stave off the winter blues
Ray Quinn, Les Dennis, Faye Brookes and Iwan Lewis stars of Legally Blonde the Musical arrive at Aylesburys Waterside Theatre
OH My God you guys... Legally Blonde is, like, totally fun.
If you’re looking for a smattering of something light, bright and utterly undemanding to brighten up these gloomy February evenings, look no further. Legally Blonde The Musical, now running at Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre, could be just the pick-me-up you need.
If you haven’t seen the film, the story is about a dizzy blonde called Elle, who is ditched in favour of a more ‘serious’ girlfriend by her ambitious boyfriend Warner when he goes off to Harvard Law School.
Elle decides that to win him back she will have to get to Harvard as well.
Somehow – and don’t ask me how, because I haven’t a clue, but it involved a team of cheerleaders turning up at the law school to sing Elle’s praises – she is accepted for a place.
She arrives there, decked out in head-to-toe pink with her fluffy pencil and pet chihuahua, Bruiser.
As the play moves on, Elle gradually realises that Warren is a waste of space and she herself can be a talented lawyer.
The play ends with her successfully defending a woman accused of murdering her husband – and all thanks to her superior understanding of haircare treatments.
Former game show host Les Dennis is superb as the caddish Professor Callahan, West End actress Faye Brookes brings the loveability factor to Elle, former X Factor finalist Ray Quinn gives an excellent performance as Warner and former Brookside star Claire Sweeney does a good comic turn as Elle’s friend Paulette.
Names best new musical in the whatsonstage.com awards 2011 and nominated for five Olivier Awards, the tour of Legally Blonde is at the Waterside until Saturday night.
