THOUSANDS of visitors are due to enjoy two days of laid-back entertainment at the Blisworth Canal Festival next Saturday and Sunday, August 11 and 12.

Running from 11am to 5pm both days, the festival will offer live music, children’s activities, and a host of talks and demonstrations.

The waterfront will be full of trade boats and stalls, including the ever-popular cheese boat. The narrowboat Funion Bargee will also be moored to provide free supervised play sessions for children.

Seven village venues will host attractions including demonstrations by a master blacksmith, a birds of prey exhibit, and have-a-go bell ringing sessions.

An art gallery, wood carving, and a range of rural craft demonstrations can also be seen.

Younger visitors can enjoy pony rides, sport coaching and a laser arena.

Free walks and talks will be available throughout the weekend, and live music will include a performance by popular local Celtic band Rapscallion on the waterfront on the Sunday.

Organisers say there will be 1,000ft of trade boats for visitors to browse, and around a dozen charity stalls.

The RNLI will bring a large inflatable craft to the event, and the Warks and Northants Air Ambulance will host a raffle.

Hungry and thirsty visitors can refresh themselves with a real ale bar, a pig roast, and a village bistro.

A total of 10 village gardens will be open to visitors on Sunday.

All proceeds will go towards village improvements.

Entry to all attractions is free of charge, excluding the open gardens. Free parking and free mooring is available both days.
