The King of PopMichael Jackson may have died five years ago this month, but his music lives on, and he is currrently at the top of the charts with his posthumous album Xscape.

If you were fortunate to see the man perform live you will understand why he was considered to be the world’s greatest entertainer and ultimate showman, writes Heather Jan Brunt.

Now that fans can no longer enjoy seeing him perform, they look for other ways to enjoy a live experience show of his music.

And although nothing and no one can ever replace Michael Jackson or his stunning stage performances, Thriller Live is a celebratory tribute show that has now sold more than 2,500,000 tickets worldwide.

Conceived and written by Adrian Grant, a long time associate of Michael Jackson, fans can rest assured that MJ knew about and approved of the project.

I have seen this show twice, and intend to see it again when it returns to the Waterside on June16 for three nights.

With an ever changing cast and a constantly evolving production the show does alter, but the one thing that appears to remain is a genuine determination to honour and reflect the music of Michael Jackson.

No one person can capture the essence of the man, so several performers sing his iconic songs spanning several decades.

And as dance was so much a part of the man, the show features a youthful cast of talented dancers who recreate his iconic dance moves and sequences thanks to the dazzling choreography of the show’s award winning director Gary Lloyd.

I have seen this show in the West End and at the Waterside and on both occasions the audience was up on their feet by the end.

Joining the Waterside cast for the latest run is Cleo Higgins, former lead singer of Cleopatra, and a contestant on BBC television’s The Voice last year.

Cleo was the lead singer of the 1990s pop group made up of three sisters from Manchester.

Signed to Madonna’s label Maverick when she was just 13, Cleopatra had three Top Ten hits, supported the Spice Girls, had two television series and even performed concerts at the Vatican.

In 2013 Celo auditioned for The Voice. All the coaches turned around for her and she chose to join Will i am’s team and got through to the semi finals.

Thriller Live is at the Waterside from, June 16-18 at 7.30pm.

Tickets start at £17.50. Box office 0844 871 7607.
