BUCKINGHAM town centre will close for the annual charter fair on Friday. (18/10)
Deputy Town Mayor Cllr Warren Whyte will officially open the fair at 1pm next Saturday near the town hall, and certain attractions will offer free rides to disabled children for the first hour.

The fair offers a mix of stalls and sideshows as well as traditional rides, a big wheel and dodgems, and a selection of hot and cold refreshments.

Buckingham Town Mayor Cllr Howard Mordue said: "I look forward to the return of the charter fair which, despite causing inconvenience for some residents and traders, provides Buckingham with an active and fun event."

Cllr Mordue said he regretted being unable to conduct the official opening, but he will be attending celebrations in Buckingham's twinned town of Mouvaux.

This year is the 454th since Queen Mary Tudor granted the charter to Buckingham, which was one of the first towns to proclaim her accession after the death of her half-brother Edward VI.

Access to the Cornwall's Meadow car park will be available, but other town centre routes will be restricted or closed from around midday on Friday to early on Sunday. Diversions will be in operation.

The charter fair will return from around midday the following Friday, October 25, and will open at 2pm on the Saturday.
