THE Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, at Quainton, near Aylesbury, is a working steam museum, with one of the largest collections of locomotives and railway memorabilia in the UK.
As well as the old railway station with its own artefacts, there is a large visitor centre with refreshment rooms, a gift shop, and permanent historic railway exhibits, including a Royal dining coach from the 1890s and one used by Churchill and Eisenhower for wartime meetings.
The museum houses historic exhibits, including a platform with a goods train with an open-door wagons display. Steam train rides run every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, 10.30am to 5.30pm, and Wednesdays in school holidays, 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Admission charges vary according to the event. With free, adjacent parking, excellent access, clean and safe picnic areas and lots to see, the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre makes a great day out for the whole family.
