Athletics: Runaway victory for athletics team

ROYAL Latin School's athletics team have been crowned district champions for the third time in 10 years.
The last time the Buckingham school's team won the Aylesbury Vale District Athletics Championship was in 2001 and 2002 when led by Great Britain sprinter Craig Pickering.
The tournament comprises of boys' and girls' teams made up from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10.
Much hard work went into the preparation for the event during after-school practices and lunchtimes. Royal Latin are fortunate that they have many talented athletes but also that many have the commitment to train hard to produce their very best for the school.
There were eleven schools competing against the Royal Latin at the event, held earlier this month – the main rivals as usual being Waddesdon, Mandeville and John Colet.
The lead changed hands regularly throughout the day but the strength of the Latin's relay teams made a huge difference and they ended up winning by a massive 92 points, a new record.
Royal Latin's overall points tally of 492 was the largest in the last decade, as was the winning margin, ahead of Waddesdon School.
It was an excellent team performance from more than 80 pupils, with some outstanding individual performances, notably Patrick Taylor (1,500m), James Lund (200m), George Ford (400m), James Treadwell (200m), Rebecca Whatmore (200m and long jump), Louisa Taylor (800m), Year 9 Girls 4x100m relay, Brodie Smith (long jump), and Jack Haynes (200m).
Royal Latin also won year group trophies with winning teams from Year 7 Boys, Year 9 Girls and Year 10 Boys.
Praise is due to all pupils involved on the day. Team managers were Mr Izzard and Miss Tallentire.
