WINSLOW bowler David West is setting his sights on national glory after finishing runner-up in the Bucks County under-25s singles final.
Fifteen-year-old West, who attends Buckingham's Royal Latin School, finished second to Keiran Delaney from Iver Heath in the final last Saturday at Chesham Bowls Club, going down 21-7.
To reach the last stages, West saw off Adam Tysoe from Bletchley Town in round one, Dean Brooks – also from Bletchley – in round two and beat Frank McCartney from Chesham in the semi-final.
He received the runners-up trophy and was presented with his county badge.
West is a member of Winslow Bowls Club and started playing bowls at the age of 11. He lives in Newton Longville.
His mother Lea said: "David's ambtion is to play for England and he hopes he can steadily improve to that standard.
"He was thrilled to finish runner-up in the county under-25s."
She added: "I play for Winslow Bowls Club and my parents did too. It was their influence that led him to take up the sport."
Bletchley Bowls Blub are interested in the youngster playing for them, but he says he is remaining loyal to Winslow.
West and Delaney have now qualified for the EBA (England Bowls Association) National Finals under-25 singles representing Bucks at Worthing on August 9/10. West's first match will be against Oxon.
The overall winner of this knockout competition will go on to represent England in the British Isles Championships in Ireland in 2009.
There was also success for Winslow bowler Daphne Birch, who has reached the finals of the county two-wood singles at Leamington Spa later this summer.
