WESTBURY'S Ben Rae was once again the star of the show as he scored his sixth century of the season and took his runs to over the 1,000 mark as Westbury defeated local rivals Great Horwood by 33 runs.
Horwood put Westbury into bat on a good wicket.
Wilson was the first to go when Mcstraw had him trapped lbw with the score on 22. Two runs later Smith also went lbw, this time to Ridgway, and Westbury were 24-2 in the 5th over. Tom Boardman came to the crease and quickly hit 26 from 24 deliveries while Rae notched up runs at the other end. When Boardman was caught by Norris the score had moved on to 73. This saw U17 youth Ben Sutton take to the crease and he played superbly supporting Rae and hitting 41 off 47 balls and pushing the score on to 165.
Rae's century came in two hours and 83 deliveries, including 11 fours and 4 sixes, making 103. Horwood were made to pay for dropping him when he was on 38. Westbury posted 233 all out with Wilson being the top wicket taker (3 for 37).
After tea Westbury made an early breakthrough when Spurr was caught off Hoy's bowling in the 4th over. Sam Willett ploughed a lone furrow, reaching 115 in 2¼ hours, but when he was caught at long-off by Beesley it was game over. Tom Boardman (3-61) and Steve Wilkes (2-47) were Westbury's main wicket takers.
Horwood fell tantalisingly close only 33 runs behind .
Westbury won the Peter Strong Trophy on Sunday, July 13.
