A LATE rally by Syresham saw them finish runners-up to champions Byfield in the South Northants League Premier Division on the final day's play.
Matt Butler was the star for Syresham as he stroked a fine 91 not out and grabbed 3-26 in his side's 75-run defeat of fourth-placed Warwick University Staff.
Syresham posted 214-4, with George Brock supporting Butler with an unbeaten 82 and Richard Wyness taking a handy 3-25 as Staff were dismissed for 139.
Evenley finished the season in third place with a win over Fenny Compton by 132 runs.
Dave Holden, 82 not out, and Anthony Romaine, 60, were the pick of the Evenley batsmen as their side posted 272-7. Romaine, 2-49, James Smith, 2-24, and Alan Sylvestor, 3-28, pegged back Fenny to 140 all out.
In the M & P Scott (Builders) Division One relegated Silverstone lost out to promoted Radway by 119 runs. Hugh Williams, 29, offered the main resistance as Silverstone were skittled out for 96. Radway eased to 215-5, Jenny Williams grabbing 2-18 for Silverstone.
Mid-table sides Thornborough and Stoneleigh fought out a one-sided last game as Thornborough cruised home by 138 runs. Ian McStraw topscored with an unbeaten 127, aided by Ian Chapman's 40 as their side piled up 298-8. Stoneleigh managed 160 all out, Chapman, 4-38, and Swapnil Khedekar, 3-16, doing the damage for Thornborough.
Gayton produced a late finish in the New England Financial Services Division Two to finish second and gain promotion. They beat relegated Gawcott & Hillesden by 43 runs, despite a defiant 52 from Nick Stanger.
Champions Hinton won their last match against Sibford, while Greens Norton edged Evenley A by eight runs. Andre Bodily hit an unbeaten 69 in Norton's total of 218-6. Evenley were dismissed for 210.
In Division Three Preston Bissett achieved promotion with a 48-run win over champions MK Air, who also go up. Matt Collins topscored for Preston with 55 and Gary Hunt grabbed 4-20. Relegated Maids Moreton lost by 94 runs to fellow relegated side Willoughby.
Finmere lost narrowly by 13 runs to Wroxton, Keith Carpenter starring for Finmere, with 39 runs and 3-24.
In Division Four, promoted Syresham A finished second in the table after a three-wicket loss to Preston Capes A. Charlton lost to Flecknoe by seven wickets.
In Division Five Helmdon just missed on promotion with an eight-wicket defeat to champions Grange Park A.
Ish Hussain grabbed 8-42 to sink third-placed Helmdon, who were dismissed for 76. Andy Devonshire took 4-14 as Silverstone A beat Thornborough A by five wickets.
