BUCKINGHAM Town kick off their United Counties League Division One campaign on Saturday (09/08)in confident mood after an unbeaten pre-season run.
The Robins host Peterborough North Star at Ford Meadow on the back of five wins and two draws in friendly games.

Town edged a 3-2 win against Stony Stratford Town on Tuesday and ran out 3-0 winners over Thame United last Saturday.

In-form Michael McKenzie scored in both games, along with Jeff Baffo, while Ben Flynn and Danny Mills were also on the scoresheet.

With a squad of 18 first teamers, including seven new summer signings, manager Tony Joyce has, as he says, 'a nice selection problem' for Saturday's opening encounter.

The only doubt for the game is central defender Mark Toms, whose wife is expecting a baby. New signing Tyrone Taylor is also away.

Boss Joyce said: "Peterborough will be a tough test for us as they finished second in the league last season and we lost to them twice.

"But we have done well in pre-season and have created a lot of chances in our games, which is always a good sign.

"With a big first-team squad, I've got a selection problem for Saturday, but a nice one. I'm hopeful of a good display from the lads."

The following Saturday Buckingham are in FA Cup action at Witney United in a game which will be televised by ITV Sport.

This Monday, Buckingham Youth entertain Rushden & Diamonds, kick-off 7.45pm at Ford Meadow.

Local Molten Spartan South Midlands' sides also kick off their league season this Saturday.

In Division One Buckingham Athletic entertain Hatfield Town, kick-off 3pm, while Winslow United travel to Cranfield United for a 3pm start.

Winslow have had mixed fortunes in pre-season games, drawing 2-2 with Chinnor on Tuesday following a 2-0 win against Newport Pagnell Town the previous Thursday. They lost to Witney Town by the same score.

Athletic are again in action on Tuesday with a 7.45pm visit to Stony Stratford Town. That same night Winslow entertain Amersham Town, kick off also 7.45pm.

In Division Two on Saturday Mursley United visit Wodson Park, kick-off 3pm. Padbury United travel to Aston Clinton, 3pm start.

Mursley turn out again on Tuesday, kick-off 6.30pm, hosting Bucks Student Union, while Padbury travel to Bletchley Town on Wednesday, kick-off also 6.30pm.

Hellenic League sides Bicester Town, Ardley United and Launton Sports begin their campaigns on Tuesday, August 12, while Brackley Town get underway the following Saturday, August 16.
