Football: Saints in fine form for friendlies

BRACKLEY Town continued their excellent pre-season form with a 5-2 home defeat of Aylesbury United on Tuesday (22/07).
BGB Southern League Premier Division side Brackley overwhelmed their Division One opponents with a second half hat-trick from new signings Ben Mackey and a brace from David Stone.
Brackley led 1-0 at the break as Stone headed home from a Tom Winters' cross.
Mackey came on at the interval and fired home three goals, with Stone grabbing his second.
David Staff and Winters were a constant threat during the game.
Aylesbury scored two consolation goals, the last one netted by Nathan Graham.
Last Saturday (19/07)Saints travelled to Hellenic League Premier Division side Ardley United and ran out 4-0 winners.
Brackley's new signings all figured in the goals. Saints took the lead on 30 minutes when David Staff netted from close range.
Mackey made it 2-0 five minutes into the second half as he held off two challenges, drew the Ardley keeper and slotted home.
Two goals inside four minutes put the result beyond doubt. Mackey grabbed his second from inside the box and Staff also netted a brace as he looped a header from 12 yards over the keeper's head.
Further Brackley Town friendlies include: Wednesday, July 30 v Peterborough United (home), kick-off 7.45pm; Saturday, August 2 v Abingdon United (away), kick-off 3pm; Tuesday, August 5 v Woodford United (away), kick-off 7.45pm.
Saints start their league campaign on Saturday, August 16 with a trip to Welsh side Merthyr Tydfil.
Brackley are staging a family open day at St James Park on Saturday (26/07), from 2pm-5pm.
Visitors can meet the first team squad, enjoy a barbecue and take part in a penalty shoot-out competition.
