Forty-one ladies from all over the county came together at Buckingham Golf Club over the period May 11-9 for the Bucks County Spring Meet and County Championships.
Head greenkeeper Brian Piggott and his staff had worked tirelessly over the preceding two weeks and the course was in pristine shape.

Friday's competition was a 36-hole Medal qualifier for the knockout stages. That was headed by Kelly Knight from
Magnolia Park with a total gross score of 150, including a course record score of 72.

Rachel Drummond from Beaconsfield was one stroke behind, followed by Harriet Beasley from Woburn who recorded a gross 152. The top 16 finishers, who included Buckingham's Bernie Howe and Vicki Frost, then went through to the weekend knockout stages.

In a thrilling match on Saturday morning, Howe was beaten on the 19th hole by Beasley, while Frost won her match 7 & 6 against Cathy Armstrong from Ellesborough. Frost went through to the afternoon stage but was beaten 3 & 2 by one of the eventual finalists, Steph Gough, also from Ellesborough.

In a fantastic weekend of golf the final was contested – for the first time ever - by two juniors. Gough chipped in on the first for a birdie and was never behind until the long 17th hole when Drummond put her second shot to within six feet of the flag, Drummond eventually running out the winner by one hole.

Competitors and crowd alike then enjoyed splendid hospitality in the clubhouse.
