BRACKLEY-BASED Grand Prix driver Anthony Davidson will not be participating in further rounds of the 2008 FIA F1 World Championship after the Super Aguri Honda team announced their withdrawal from racing on Tuesday.
For two years, Davidson, a former Minardi Grand Prix driver and Honda F1 test driver, has raced for the Oxfordshire-based Super Aguri Honda team.
Following the withdrawal of a major sponsor and an unsteady economic climate preventing the Aguri Suz
uki-owned team from locating a new backer, the team issued a statement to confirm the cancellation of the participation in the World Championship.
Aguri Suzuki said: "My dream to run a team in Formula 1 is over. I would like to thank everyone involved with our programme, the drivers, Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato, Honda, our engine supplier, our loyal team employees and our fans."
He added: "Sadly the funds required to allow Super Aguri to race at this level are not available, and so it is with much sadness that we have to close our doors."
The move leaves Davidson and his Japanese team-mate, Takuma Sato, on the sidelines this weekend as the F1 season continues with the Grand Prix of Turkey in Istanbul.
With few options available in F1 currently, Davidson is expected to look at sportscars for an immediate career, while Sato, using his Honda links, may be destined to switch to America and the IndyCar Series.
