BRACKLEY'S Karun Chandhok raced to victory in Sunday's GP2 'Sprint Race' at Hockenheim – his first victory of the season for iSport International.
He also finished eighth in Saturday's 'Feature Race', and his point scoring drives have lifted him to sixth overall in the GP2 points standings.

Chandhok said afterwards: "I am so happy – this is a great boost for my season, and I am now looking towards Formula 1 in 2009."

The iSport driver lost the lead briefly at the start, as Lucas di Grassi moved to the front, although less than one lap later Chandhok made an impressive pass at the hairpin to regain the top-spot. Once back at the lead of the pack, Chandhok was able to pull away to lead home Piquet Sports' Andreas Zuber and iSport team-mate, and Silverstone 'Sprint Race' winner, Bruno Senna.

Chandhok, a former British Formula 3 race winner, added: "My season is going very well, and the iSport team again provided me with a great car.

"I have waited for this win, and I am really looking forward to the next race at Hungary when I hope that I will be able to score another win."

  • Thornborough's Danny Watts was out of luck in the Porsche Supercup race at Hockenheim, failing to score points, but maintaining his 100% finishing record.

  • Watts was punted out of contention early on, which forced him to make a pit-stop to change a broken wheel rim.

After the stop, Watts' SAS-Lechner team car suffered power steering pump failure, which prevented further progress.
