IN A shock announcement, the Jonathan France-owned Embassy Racing team has informed its drivers, including three-time Walter Hayes Trophy winner Joey Foster, that it is shutting its doors, with immediate effect.
Yorkshire-based Embassy Racing started in 2004 and quickly rose through the ranks of the British GT Championship, with Towcester driver Neil Cunningham leading the team's attack. A switch to the Le Mans Series came at the start of the 2007 season.
Embassy developed their own WF01-Zytek for the 2008 season and Silverstone favourite, Joey Foster, was selected as one of four drivers to contest the Le Mans 24-Hour Race and the Le Mans Series.
The closure of Embassy Racing has come as a huge shock to Foster, who was committed to the team for a further two years. He said: "When I received the telephone call, I must admit it was a huge shock. I thought I had a great drive for at least two more years. For me, at this stage of my career, I must return to the drawing board."
He added: "I am not sure what I will do next. I may test a Formula 3 car, or try to look for a drive with another sportscar team. I like racing in the Le Mans Series, so that would be my favourite option."
