BUCKINGHAM Swans ran out 40-12 winners at Longton as their NC Midlands 1 League campaign got off to a fine start at the weekend.
Despite recruiting new players, Swans could only field 12 against Longton's 15.

The visitors held off an early attack, and after several scrums, centre Meg Warrington showed excellent pace and skill, running through Longton's defence.

With confidence high, Swans repeatedly spun the ball out wide to their trio of speedy players, allowing winger Jo Godfrey to go in for four tries, with centre Em Surman and full-back Lindsay Haynes in for one each.

Stand-off Bec Bray added a further five conversions to make it a tremendous team effort.

Longton failed to use the overlap but managed to score two tries, resulting in a final score of 12-40 to Buckingham, who were playing in the NC Midlands 1 league after being promoted last season.

Special mention goes to Katie Clarke and Megan Warrington for their excellent debuts and player of the match Bec Bray.

Swans' next game is on Sunday (12/10) at home to Moseley.
