Youth football: Narrow defeat for Gawcott Jaguars
PRESTON Gawcott under-9s Jaguars lost narrowly 3-2 to Newport Pagnell Tigers in a thrilling game on Saturday (03/05).
Tigers scored a goal against the run of play and in the second half extended their lead with two further goals.
Jaguars regained their rhythm and scoring touch, with goals from Luke Page and man of the match Chris Sacharov to set up an exciting finish.
The previous week Jaguars played Linford Eagles and although Jaguars had several early attempts on goal, they finished the first half 6-1 down. They showed more composure and spirit in the second half to dominate the play without conceding any further goals. Tim Lawton narrowly missed from a free kick and man of the match James Button lashed the rebound just over the bar.
Preston Gawcott under-10s Tigers produced a stuttering performance at home to Southcott Owls, but still ran out winners by 2-1.
A typical run by Henry Seaton mid way through the first half soon produced the first goal as the ball broke to Jordan Edgell, playing his last game for Tigers, who clipped it over the on-coming keeper for the Tigers' lead. Early in the second half another run from Seaton, who could have scored several goals himself, rebounded off the keeper to Ethan Craig who tucked the ball away neatly.
With Jordan Edgell producing a man of the match midfield performance and some solid defensive work from James Hill, Southcott had little opportunity to trouble the Tigers' goal until a shot right at the death gave them consolation.
In their last game of the season Preston Gawcott under-14 Tigers travelled to Leighton Buzzard to face title hopefuls Woodside Rovers and gained a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
It was an even game with Tigers getting stuck in to prevent Woodside maintaining any possession. Gawcott were without first and second choice keepers, but the stand-ins did an excellent job and clear cut chances were limited at either end.
All the action came in the last 10 minutes with Woodside converting a penalty and Gawcott throwing caution to the wind in search of an equaliser. A draw was a fair result and it was gained courtesy of an audacious lob shot from Antoni Fruncillo. Standing just inside the centre circle he volleyed a defensive header straight back over the keeper and into the middle of the goal. Man of the match was Jamie Carter.
Preston Gawcott under-14 girls romped home with a 5-0 win over MK City Pearls. Goals from Ellie Turner, Lottie Scarr and Sarah Glendinning, a strong defence of Pearce, Munn and Watts, and the controlling midfield of Skinner and Flukes saw Gawcott dominate the game. This has secured the girls second place in the Bucks Girl's League (North) Division.
Next week's final match of the season, PG Girls v Cygnets, will decide the title.
Deanshanger Colts under-7s continued their football education with a 4-3 victory over Moretonville Rovers at Folly Road.
Two evenly matched teams played out a close encounter with the home side taking the lead with a well-taken strike from Evan Wooding.
Play flowed from end to end but by half time Colts were two up after Josh Graves found Josh Baldwin on the right and he sent over a quality cross for Joshua Vye to tuck the ball home.
The second half saw Moretonville come more into it and two penalties got them back on level terms. Colts restored their advantage with Graves capping a good performance with a neat strilke.
The honours looked set to be shared as Rovers again got back on level terms, but it was to be a cruel blow that handed them defeat.
In the closing minutes William Donnelly's shot was goal-bound but a Rovers defender cleared only to see it rebound off the keeper into the empty net.
Deanshanger Colts under-9s came back to beat Wolverton Tigermoths Yellow 5-4 after going behind 4-0.
Colts showed a tenacity from midway in the first half when things looked seriously bleak.
Good work from Harry, Hammond, Jes Patel and Keir Fowler provided the fuel for the comeback, with Patel scoring two and Fowler one, to bring things back to a respectable 4-3 at half time. Patel completed his hat-trick for 4-4.
Chances fell at both ends to break the deadlock. A good attack down the right in the final minute left Hammond unmarked at the far post and he smashed the ball high into the net for the winner.
Deanshanger Colts under-14s drew 4-4 with Wing Raiders. Colts'goals came from Jamie Gadd (2) and Lewis Remon (2).
Deanshanger Colts under-17s drew 2-2 with Leighton Corinthians. Both Colts' goals came from Jamie Deards.
Syresham under-12s drew 2-2 with Willen Juniors in a top of the table league clash last Wednesday (30/04).
Syresham, unbeaten in the league at home this season, got off to a great start with Luke Griffiths scoring twice in the first half.
However, Willen levelled the game via two long range shots. But neither side could break the deadlock and the game ended in a draw. Syresham still have the opportunity to win the league with three remaining fixtures to play.
