OLDER people and those with long-term illnesses in Oxfordshire can benefit from a £160,000 Government grant.

The grant, designed to help people keep warm and well over the winter, will be used to support people through fuel vouchers, food boxes and help to improve the effectiveness of their heating systems.

NHS Oxfordshire can also help people get all the benefits they are due.

Angela Baker, consultant in public health for NHS Oxfordshire said: “As the weather gets colder many of us turn the heating up, but the people who are most susceptible to ill health during the winter are often those living in housing least prepared for the cold. There are lots of things we can all do at home to keep healthy and warm to avoid any associated illnesses.”

Those over the age of 65 or with long-term health conditions are also urged to make sure they get their free ‘flu jabs.
