The 30th Buckingham Christmas Parade saw the town jam-packed with thousands of people on Saturday.

There were more entries than ever in the parade, which had the theme of Heroes and Heroines.

The first section of the parade commemorated the centenary of the start of the First World War, with the Winslow Concert Band sitting on hay bales on the back of a lorry and a First World War horse-drawn cart.

Joey from the film War Horse, also took part, thanks to Mursley-based equine stunt team The Devil’s Horsemen.

The prizewinners were judged by MP for Buckingham John Bercow with Debs Last and Zoe Day from Buckingham Art School.

First prize in the floats went to The Ark toddler group from St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Buckingham, who also won Best In Parade.

Second prize went to the Friends of Buckingham School and Akeley Wood School won the third prize.

The best Adult Walking Group was Cancer Research UK Relay For Life.

St Edmund’s Church, Maids Moreton, came second, with Medical Detection Dogs, of Great Horwood, in third place.

Padbury Pre-school came first in the Junior Walking Group category, followed by 2nd Buckingham Guides in second pace and Grenville Combined School in third place.

The first prize in the new Best Dressed Wheels category went to Colin Beckett Aerials.

Commended were Bourton Meadow Academy, Buckingham AED Project, Buckingham Library, Field House Day Nursery, the French jazz band from the town twinning group, and Buckingham & Winslow Young Carers.

Best Shop Window went to Pasha, on Well Street, followed by Fina El Monte, also on Well Street, in second place and Gelateria Gazzeria, in Meadow Walk, in third 
place.

The parade committee thanked all those who turned out and took part, as well as the volunteer marshals.

Next year’s parade is on December 12 and the committee would welcome suggestions for the theme.
