BUCKINGHAM Athletic are looking back on a successful week which saw them progress to the next round of the South Midlands Division One Cup with a 1-0 win at Wodson Park on Tuesday following a hard-fought 1-1 league draw last Saturday at third-placed St Albans City Reserves.

Against highflying St Albans, Buckingham almost pulled off a tremendous win after a David Fenton 65th minute strike put them in front following a goalless first half.

But a goal from Reserves’ Ben Luck in the 89th minute earned the hosts a draw and disappointment for Athletic, although a point was still welcome.

In the second round cup game on Tuesday, Darren Woollard fired home for Athletic to book their place in the next round.

Athletic lie in 20th spot in the South Midlands Division One table, but have put togther a good run since boss Jim Gunn was able to bring new players in. All the signs are they will steadily climb the table from now on.

This Saturday Athletic are in action at home to Cockfosters, kick-off 3pm at Stratford Road.

> Buckingham Athletic Reserves enjoyed a 4-0 win over Stony Stratford Reserves in Reserve Division Two last Saturday to continue the club’s successful week.
