Two fire crews from Bicester were called to Polestar UK on the Chaucer Industrial Estate on Friday to deal with a blaze involving around three tonnes of waste paper.

The 1.15am incident involved a burnt out hydraulic compactor which set fire to the compacted paper in the vicinity.

Crews worked in arduous conditions for three hours to remove the paper and ensure the fire was extinguished

Incident commander Lee Churchouse said “This type of incident highlights the risks that waste products and combustible materials pose.

“The importance of business continuity plans are also key to managing the risks from this type of fire, in this instance we were able to deal with the incident and keep the factory working as normal’.
