A MAN has been arrested after a Bicester-based policewoman was seriously injured in a collision on the A34 near Kidlington last night.

The roads policing officer was helping the driver of a white Ford Transit box van which had broken down on the A34, north of the Peartree interchange and before the Kidlington junction, at about 8pm.

As she was helping the driver, a blue Ford Mondeo travelling northbound collided with her and a police vehicle.

The officer was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where she is being treated for serious injuries including a broken leg. Her condition is not life-threatening.

A 63-year-old man from Leicestershire was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released on bail until February 8.

The collision led to the closure of the A34 northbound for several hours to allow investigations to take place and the vehicles involved to be recovered.

Sgt Nigel Welham is appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact him via 08458 505505.
