Plans to relocate Buckingham West End Bowls Club to a new home in Maids Moreton have moved a step closer.

The historic club has submitted a planning application asking for permission to replace its current clubhouse in Brackley Road with one residential house.

If granted, it would pave the way for the club to move to a new development in The Fields, Maids Moreton, which would also include 35 homes for the ‘active elderly’.

The club says its current green size is too small to play County games on and that it has too few parking spaces to cope with its popularity.

The bowling green will become the new home’s lawn, but with some further trees ‘strategically planted’.

Andrew Thriepland, who owns the land in Maids Moreton, near to the existing rugby club, said: “What we are planning to do is build houses specifically designed for the elderly which would surround the club. The bowls club is one of the oldest in Bucks but the present site is not viable.”

Mr Thriepland, who will submit his application when the Brackley Road one has been decided, said the new facility would alleviate parking problems at the rugby club which ‘drive residents mad’.

“Rugby is played in winter and bowls in summer so it will relieve parking there.”
