Brave Lynnette completes Race for Life

A woman who has spent the last four years recovering from a condition which almost claimed her life has completed a personal challenge.

Lynnette Williams, of Chetwode, suffered a severe brain haemorrhage in September 2006 and spent 16 months in hospital.

She underwent 14 separate operations and had to be taught how to walk and talk again. Now, with the help of a physiotherapist, the 60-year-old mother and grandmother of two can walk with the aid of a stick.

As a personal challenge, Mrs Williams completed the Race for Life, at Campbell Park, in Milton Keynes, on Saturday, June 5, with the support of her daughter, Tuesday, personal trainer Rebecca Horwood-Smith and friend Jackie Russell.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Mrs Williams, who is married to husband Michael, said: "It was a personal challenge because, really, I shouldn't be here. It was an amazing thing for me to do it.

"I chose to take part because it is called the Race For Life and I was given up for dead four years ago. I was dragged back by an amazing surgeon, and my friends have helped me immensely. I also have a marvellous husband."

Mrs Williams suffered her haemorrhage after she had been horse riding. She was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and hopes to take part in the Race For Life next year to raise money for the hospital.

"My personal trainer came yesterday with a programme counting down to the 10km Race For Life next year," she said. "I am determined to do it and raise lots of money for the John Radcliffe."

Mrs Williams also hopes to get back in the saddle in the near future after several years away from horses. She said: "My life has been turned upside down. I used to ride horses every day. I am going to start again soon and we are just in the process of buying a really good, quiet and steady old boy for me to learn on."

She raised a few hundred pounds for Cancer Relief in this year's event.
