Ardley United 3
Thame United 1
Ardley go into tonight’s top of the table clash at Oxford City Nomads in buoyant mood after notching a comfortable home win over Thame on Tuesday to maintain their lead in the Hellenic Premier Division.
The crowd of 112 saw a tremendous game. Both teams fought hard for dominance in the early exchanges, but it was Ardley who had the first real chance when Nick Thorne was adjudged to have been brought down in the box. Ryan Brooks stepped up for the spot-kick but saw his shot clip the outside of the post, to leave the score goalless.
Brooks made amends on 44 minutes when he placed his shot wide of Thame keeper Milan Barisic to give the home side a half time lead.
Three minutes into the second half Brooks again was through on goal. Barisic palmed the shot which fell to Troy Bryan, the keeper again parrying his effort, but Darren Beckett made no mistake at the third attempt to make it 2-0 to Ardley .
Thame came back into the game and following a good 10-minute spell Luke Ricketts saw his corner hit the far post and ricochet into the net for 2-1.
Both teams fought hard but Thame had no answer to Brooks. He had already had numerous long range efforts denied him, but with four minutes left Barisic failed to get his body behind a further effort and allowed the ball to pass beneath him for 3-1 and another Ardley win.
Ardley have a nine-point lead at the top over Nomads, who play each other tonight, Friday, at the Oxford venue, kick-off 7.45pm.
