THE new owners of Lakers Nursery in Winslow want to let people know it’s business as usual at the Furze Lane site.

Jane and John Halsey, who took over from Joan and Arthur Wheatley last summer when the Wheatleys retired, said some customers don’t realise the nursery is still open.

Mrs Halsey said: “Joan and Arthur moved out on June 30, we moved in on July 1, and there were customers coming in whilst they were moving out and we were moving in!”

The Halseys moved from Bow Brickhill to take over at Lakers after Mrs Halsey was made redundant from her job in administration.

She said: “I came and worked with Joan and Arthur one day a week last year and they taught me all I know.

“A lot of people will share their knowledge and their wisdom with you, and Joan and Arthur pop back and answer my questions.

“And it’s amazing how many of my office skills have come into play here.”

Now the polytunnels are packed with bedding plants and perennials, which are “flying out the door”.

A new shop selling garden supplies including hanging baskets, plantfood and weedkiller will be open for the bank holiday weekend. Lakers is open 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
