Boost to rural phone signals

MOBILE SIGNAL: South Northants MP Andrea Leadsom has helped lead a successful campaign to get rural mobile phone users connected.

After a Commons debate last May the Government committed an extra £150 million to build thousands of new mobile phone masts.

Up to six million people in Britain currently have a poor mobile phone signal, with phone companies only obliged to cover 95 per cent of the population, 90 per cent of the time. OFCOM have now increased that obligation to 98 per cent, with additional improvements to the 4G signal capable of carrying broadband.

Mrs Leadsom said the change will make a real difference to rural businesses.
