HOUSE prices around Winslow are set to soar after firm plans for an east-west rail route were announced last week.

The rail line would link Reading, Oxford, Bicester, Winslow, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and Bedford.

Trains could be running on the new route within five years, and shuttle buses would serve Buckingham, the Claydons and the Horwoods.

Transport minister Theresa Villiers visited Bicester to view the plans on Monday.

She said the east-west rail link could bring 12,000 jobs to the region.

Transport spokesman for Bucks, Councillor David Rowlands, met with Ms Villiers in Bicester.

Simon Wilkinson, chairman of the East West Rail Developers’ Consortium, said Winslow could expect to see a 15 per cent increase in house prices.
