A NEW business awards scheme covering the whole of north Oxfordshire has been launched this month.

Bicester and District Chamber of Commerce has joined Cherwell District Council, Bicester Vision and Banbury Chamber of Commerce to create a new business awards scheme celebrating the best the district has to offer.

Nine main categories will recognise outstanding achievement in a variety of key areas: small business; tourism; hospitality and leisure; large business; sustainable business; new business; innovation; community; and training and staff care.

An individual can scoop a personal award for business person of the year, and an overall business winner will be selected.

Nominations can be made from Tuesday, November 1, with a deadline of December 31.

Entries will be judged in January, and a shortlist of finalists will be announced in February.

Award certificates and an overall trophy will be presented at a gala dinner in Bicester on March 30.

The nine category winners will progress into the wider Oxfordshire Business Awards.

Ben Jackson, chairman of Bicester and District Chamber of Commerce, said: “The awards are a great opportunity for the incredible variety of businesses and entrepreneurship to be found in north Oxfordshire to be seen and heard.”

Claire Kingsbury, chairman of Banbury Chamber of Commerce, said the awards would let firms get the recognition they deserve and bring a healthy dose of positivity into the business community.

Award sponsors include Stockdale, Chiltern Railways, Spratt Endicott Solicitors, Castle Quay Shopping Centre, Bloxham Mill Business Centre, Ellacotts Accountants, Prodrive, Cloud 9 Data Centre and Oxford & Cherwell Valley College.

Businesses can self-nominate for any of the nine main categories, or they can be nominated by a third party.

Entry forms are available from the awards website www.cherwellbusinessawards.co.uk.

Further details of awards criteria and timings will also be avilable online.
