Scheme helps homeseekers in Bicester build their own home

editorial image

A SCHEME which helps homeseekers build or renovate their own homes is growing.

The Build! initiative from Cherwell District Council, is partly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency.

Suitable land is being bought for affordable housing, some for rent, some for a range of shared-ownership and outright sale. The council is also looking to buy up empty properties which homeseekers can bring back into use.

Options include self-finish, where some internal work including fitting kitchens and bathroom, decorating and garden landscaping needs to be carried out, watertight shell, where internal structures such as partition walls will need to be added, and serviced plot where homes must be built from scratch.

Groups can also work together on a number of properties. Training and support will be provided throughout the process.
