Local farmers know they are in the best of company when they employ the services of Marsh Gibbon-based cattle chiropodist John Bowyer.
Because Mr Bowyer, who has been trimming cattle’s feet for 30 years, has now been awarded a royal warrant.
Mr Bowyer, who has lived in Marsh Gibbon all his life, learned his trade at agricultural college in Holland and is a full licence holder with the National Association of Foot Trimmers.
He told the Advertiser: “It’s a specialist job. There are not that many of us around.”
He works on local farms and as far afield as Jersey, in the Channel Islands.
And he also trims Her Majesty The Queen’s cows at the royal farms at Windsor.
Mr Bowyer, of JB Foot Trimming Services Ltd, was awarded the warrant just before Christmas. He is now entitled to put “By appointment to Her Majesty The Queen” on his stationery.
He said: “I feel very honoured. It doesn’t sink in that I have got it.”
Now aged 58, Mr Boywer, has no intention of retiring.
He said: “I love doing the job still. I shall carry on doing it as long as I can.”
