Winslow’s successful Community Car Scheme, which has just celebrated its first anniversary, is looking to recruit more volunteer drivers and co-ordinators.

Members of the Winslow Big Society Group first floated the idea of a car service to residents at the flu clinics in Winslow Health Centre.

After very positive feedback, the car scheme was set up, offering lifts to Winslow residents needing transport to GP, dentist, library, shops. activities and hospital visits.

Launched in February 2014, the service, which operates Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, has proved very popular. Over the past year, 15 volunteer drivers have completed 519 journeys. September was the busiest month so far, with 55 journeys.

One passenger said: “The car scheme has changed my life. I don’t know what I’d have done without it.”
