THE children of East Claydon School held a farewell assembly on Monday to thank a special governor for his hard work and support for their school.

County councillor David Polhill has been a governor of the tiny school and pre-school for 11 years.

Over this time, he has taken on the roles of both chair and vice-chair of governors and helped to lead the school forward.

He was heavily involved in the building of its successful pre-school.

The children sang Mr Polhill their favourite songs and presented him with thank you cards they had made.

There are just 31 children in the growing village school and 22 in the pre-school

Headteacher Barry Rogers, who is the school’s only full-time member of staff, thanked Mr Polhill for his long service and for his continued help and support for the school and local community.
