A collection of clothing to send to displaced people in Iraq and Syria exceeded all expectations.

Nearly 60 boxes of good-quality clothes, shoes and toiletries were collected at The Centre in Verney Close, Buckingham, last Saturday morning, along with a wheelchair and three mobility aids.

The collectors also raised £400 towards transport costs and the donations are still coming in.

Buckingham mother-of-two Sophia Jones, who organised the collection for the Samara’s Aid Spring Appeal, said: “The best thing was seeing how grateful people were to be able to give.”

Sophia is holding another collection of summer and mid-season clothes and shoes for adults and children, lightweight bedding, baby items and mobility aids at the Ark toddler group, in St Peter & St Paul’s Church from 10am to noon on Thursday, April 28.
