Come to the Bicester and Finmere Show on Sunday.

THE 51st Bicester and Finmere Show will offer even more variety for visitors this Sunday.

This year's event is set to host a new food hall selling fine local produce, an ever-growing dog show, and the return of an art and craft marquee that proved very popular at last year's event.

Organiser Derek Ricketts said: "Ferret racing, vintage cars and tractors will be on the agenda, and as always, the most unique competition in the country is the Celebrity Jockeys' High Jump, which always proves to be such a spectacle!

"This is supported by all the favourite names from national hunt and flat racing, and has been won in the past by Richard Dunwoody, Richard Johnson and Carl Llewellyn to name just a few."

Traditional favourite attractions will include a show jumping competition featuring some of the country's top riders, which has grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious competitions of its kind in the country.

Visitors can also see some of Britain's most famous show jumping names try to beat the Celebrity Jockeys' High Jump Challege record of 5ft 10ins.

With more than 18,000 in prize money up for grabs this year, organisers are expecting to attract a crowd of 3,000 spectators.

The large dog show will this year include a flyball and agility demonstration by the Four Counties Flyballers, with a have-a-go section for family pets to prove their worth.

Admission is 5 for adults and free for children under the age of 16. Older visitors can enjoy a VIP lunch marquee and public bar, while children can amuse themselves at the show's funfair.

Organisers were able to donate 13,500 to charity from the proceeds of last year's 50th anniversary event. The total donations to charity over the years come to around 575,000.

The show began in 1960 as a way of raising money for a local 17-year-old girl, Sally Haynes, who was paralysed in a point-to-point fall. The event now supports two national charities, the Back Up Trust and Spinal Research.

The showground can be found off the A4421 Buckingham Road, just north of Bicester.

Further details, including schedules and directions, can be found on the show's website at www.bicesterandfinmereshow.co.uk.

Gates open at 9am.
