A new classroom built over the summer holidays has opened at Whittlebury Primary School and become a testiment to local community spirit.

The classrooms will be used for teaching years two and three and should enable the school to maintain the small numbers of students per class that it currently enjoys.

The construction of the building became a local effort as tradesmen and women from the area united together under the management of Mark Townsend in an attempt to lower the price of construction, successfully cutting approximately £35,000 off the original estimates.

“It was a real community project,” said Sharon Townsend, the school’s business manager, “a fantastic achievement and the children absolutely love it”.
