THE Stagecoach bus company has announced that in two weeks’ time the X5 bus will no longer be stopping outside Tesco, on London Road, Buckingham.
From August 21, the bus will stop instead at the main bus stop in the town centre.
Bucks County Council has previously asked for the X5 service to be routed through Buckingham town centre.
And in March Buckingham Town Council wrote to Stagecoach expressing its preference for the town centre bus stop, because it is equally accessible for residents in all parts of the town, and near to car parks where all-day parking is permitted.
It said that all local buses, including those serving villages to the north and west, call at the bus stand, making it a better interchange.
And it pointed out that Tesco has now introduced a parking time restriction, making it impossible to park there to use the X5 bus.
Town councillor Robin Stuchbury said he was broadly in favour of the change.
He said: “I think it’s a positive because it’s offering more opportunities to people to take employment outside Buckingham. My only concern is, have they done a proper analysis as to how the bus times will interact with the other buses that use the stop, so it won’t interfere with any of the other bus times?”
There will also be big changes to the X5 timetable from August 21, with extra peak-time services into both Cambridge and Oxford.
Buses to Bedford will leave on the hour and every half hour, while buses to Oxford will depart at 20 minutes and 50 minutes past the hour.
