A former mayor of Aylesbury has received an accolade for his front garden in Towcester.

Last week Towcester Town Council wrote to winners and runners up of the Towcester in Bloom competition ahead of the prize giving ceremony due to be held at the Towcester Produce Show on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27.

Judged by Towcester mayor David Linney the top prize went to Frank and Joyce Buckingham of Sheppards Close.

Mr Buckingham said it had been a tough growing year, first with the hose pipe ban, and then with heavy rain showers.

The 85-year-old, who served as Aylesbury mayor in 1975, said: “I’m very proud to live in Towcester and I hope the competition will encourage others to take pride in the gardens and help improve the look of the town.”

Runners up were Mrs Davis of Bickerstaffe Road, and Mr and Mrs Springett, also of Bickerstaffe Road. They all receive framed certificates and vouchers for the Bell Plantation.
