A talking newspaper for blind and partially sighted people is looking for volunteers.

The Buckingham & District Talking Newspaper meets at 4pm every Friday afternoon to record news and features from that day’s Advertiser.

Stories are read aloud by a team of experienced readers, and recorded under the watchful ear of a sound recordist at the mixing desk.

The administrator then duplicates the recording on to individual memory sticks.

These are packed into padded envelopes and taken to the Buckingham sorting office by 6pm, for next day delivery to the newspaper’s 27 listeners – who have free loan of a machine to play them on.

Six teams of five share the recording on a rota, with each team meeting one Friday in six in a room kindly made available at the Buckingham School.

The talking newspaper needs an adminstrator for one of its teams, and would also welcome a reserve sound recordist. Anyone wishing to volunteer or to receive a copy of the talking newspaper can call chairman John Murray on 01280 813792 or johnandjocelyn@btinternet.com
