AN elderly Bicester man was assaulted by a burglar who pretended to be a motorist in need of assistance on Monday.

At about 9.20pm, a man called at the victim’s home in Buckingham Road, claiming he had broken down and asking if he could use a telephone.

As the man went to get his mobile, the burglar forced his way into the home, assaulted the man and stole a small amount of money.

The man was shaken but uninjured following the incident.

The burglar was a short well-built white man aged in his mid-twenties, with short dark hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured fleece.

PC Steve Perry said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything relating to this incident, or anyone with any information about this crime.

“I would also like to hear from anyone else who may have been approached by this man, or who may have seen him in the area and can provide us with information about his movements.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Perry on 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry line on 101.
