BICESTER’S street wardens have a new weapon in the fight against thieves after town firm Langford Locks donated a new Storenet radio.

The £365 radio will allow Cherwell District Council’s street wardens to keep track of any suspected criminals spotted in the area.

Details of suspects are kept in the Cherwell Crime Partnership database, and member stores are able to keep in contact with street wardens and each other via the Storenet radios.

Reg Connor, of Langford Locks, made the donation following a chat with his friend, street warden Trevor Lewis. “He told me about the Storenet radio system successes in the retail sector and that the street wardens wanted to extend the scheme to residential areas of the town. But due to lack of a radio it would be difficult,” said Mr Connor.
