BUCKINGHAM’S neighbourhood policing team had a new man on the beat yesterday, Thursday, when MP for Buckingham John Bercow joined officers on patrol in the town centre.

Insp Emma Garside said the visit had been a great success.

“He must have been with is for approximately four hours,” she said.

“He seemed genuinely interested, asking lots of questions, wanting to be better informed.”

Mr Bercow went on foot patrol round town with Insp Garside and PC Richard Davis, toured the parks and visited the university, where he chatted to some of the new students.

PC Davis said: “We had a lovely afternoon. He was very much in touch with the problems people have in Buckingham.”

Mr Bercow then went on a tour of the rural villages in the police Landrover with PC Nicki Tipping.
