DRIVERS travelling in the Gawcott area last week had to be on their best behaviour as the police were carrying out speed checks.

Officers from Buckingham Police Station ran their speed enforcement operation on Thursday morning in and around Buckingham.

PCSO John Webb said: “Every month we combine with officers in Bucks to run a speed enforcement operation. We carried out speed enforcement in both Gawcott and Buckingham and stopped 24 drivers for speeding. The majority of those were in Gawcott.

“We were breathalysing speeders as well to try to get the message out to people if you get caught contravening the road traffic conventions it’s an automatic breathalyser.”

Across the Thames Valley area, as of December 16, 177 people have been arrested for drink driving, a 21 per cent increase on the same period last year, with 69 people charged with the offence, 30 people bailed and 18 people released without charge.

Those who provide positive breath tests or who refuse or fail to provide a breath sample when asked could face a prison sentence of up to six months and lose their driving licence for at least 12 months.
