HEAVY construction equipment began ripping up the former Crown and Crown Walk car parks in Bicester this week as the long-awaited town centre redevelopment moved forward.

Bus stops moved from Bure Place to Market Square and North Street on Monday, and shoppers have been directed to alternative car parks.

The first phase will involve demolition and ground works, and construction is expected to start in spring this year.

The scheme, due to be completed next summer, will create a new seven-screen cinema and Sainsbury’s supermarket behind Sheep Street.
