The Bicester campus of Oxford and Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) will build greater ties with employers and the community when it is rebranded before the next academic year, the new principal has said.
OCVC’s sites in Broughton Road in Banbury and at Telford Road in Bicester will become Banbury and Bicester College as part of the rebrand. OCVC campuses at Oxpens Road and Blackbird Leys in Oxford will also become a separate college within the same group.
New principal Rose Turner, former vice-principal of Reading College, has been appointed to lead the new Banbury and Bicester College.
She said: “The Bicester college is quite small at the moment and specialised on engineering and motorsport.
“It’s not really local, it’s national. We get people coming from all over the country to study motorsport with us.”
She added: “We want to expand into general engineering with a focus on motorsport.
“We have a most fantastic facility in Bicester you won’t find anywhere else in the country.”
Changes are designed to help students, families, and employers build a better relationship with the college.
Mrs Turner said: “We are looking at providing something different and exciting in partnership with employers.
“Employers really are the way forward for us. We have to be far more responsive.
“It’s not just about about education, it’s about how we can play our part in developing the local economy.”
