A new college for Silverstone has been given the go ahead by South Northants Council.

The University Technical College (UTC) at Silverstone Circuit, is set to open in September next year.

It will offer students aged 14 to 19 the chance to gain skills and experience needed for careers in high performance engineering and technical events management.

Rupert Fordham, councillor for economic development and regeneration, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our district and confirms south Northants place at the heart of high performance engineering.”

The UTC is an educational partnership between Tresham College of Further and Higher Education, University of Northampton and Silverstone Circuits, and will attract students from Brackley, Towcester and Bicester.

It will cater for 576 students and 55 staff and will house workshops, laboratories, and an exhibition hall.
