SOLAR panels installed at a council depot in Towcester will save tax payers £350,000 over the next 25 years.
This month the first solar photovoltaic (PV) system was installed on the roof of South Northants Council’s Tove Depot in Old Tiffield Road under the Invest to Save initiative. The panels produce up to 40 kilowatts of electricity, meaning little or no electricity is used from the National Grid to power the building.
Dermot Bambridge, SNC’s member for environment said: “This scheme is a sound investment by the council, contributing towards savings that can be re-invested, and it also helps us tackle climate change.
“Solar energy is clean, safe, secure and this scheme is all part of our long term commitment to reducing carbon footprint in our district.”
With money left over from the scheme SNC also hope to equip community buildings in the district with PV panels and have already received applications from not-for-profit community groups.
