Fifty-five swimmers swam their hearts out for charity at Buckingham Rotary’s fifth annual Swimathon at Buckingham’s Swan Pool and Leisure Centre.
Swimmers clocked up a total of 665 laps, or 1,330 lengths of the newly refurbished pool, at last Saturday’s event.
Enthusiastic youngsters, professional adult swimmers, including members of the Buckingham Swans Swimming Club, and people who had specially trained just for the event all powered up and down the pool.
Teams of up to six swam in relays to fundraise for a whole raft of charities including Buckingham Youth Club, the Buckingham and Winslow Young Carers (YC2), Aspire, Buckingham Winslow & District Citizens Advice, The MacIntyre School, Wingrave, Brackley Junior School, Kidney Research UK and Cancer Research UK.
Rotary will also be donating to Florrie’s Children’s Team and other charities supported by Rotary International.
The total amount raised is not yet known, as pledges are still coming in.
President Ken Trevitt, of Buckingham Rotary Club said: ‘We are delighted to be able to put on this wonderful community event. Every year, we see youngsters and adults taking the opportunity to swim for charity and raise money for their favourite causes.
“Our especial thanks goes to the management of the Swan Pool and Leisure Centre, Everyone Active, for allowing us to hold our event there. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
“And if you didn’t swim this year, please do get in training for next year!”
