The Buckingham Festival of Music and Drama is no more.

For more than 40 years, the festival has been encouraging local amateur musicians and actors to try out their skills in front of an audience, and receive tips and advice from a professional adjudicator.

But after consulting widely, the committee has decided the festival no longer meets the needs of local people.

It is, however, leaving a legacy to the town as its remaining funds will be shared between the Buckingham Community Pantomime and Buckingham Music Masterclasses, a new venture enabling local amateurs to take part in workshops with established professionals.

Festival chairman Graham Holiday said: “We’re sad to see the festival go but it’s very exciting to be able to support local music and drama in this way. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped to make the festival such a feature of town life over the years.”
