SQUASH: Tuesday night saw Bicester record a fine 4-1 win against an Abingdon side reinforced with Division One players, with every game except one going to five games.
Captain Nick Barnett said: “Abingdon put out a very strong side and every game could have gone either way, it was that tight. This will probably be the match that decides the title.”
Ben Shakespeare beat Gary Cross 3-0 (9/2, 9/6, 9/5). Shakespeare’s fast battery of shots were too much for Cross to contain.
Nick Barnett lost to Alan Horton 3-2 (9/6, 9/2, 5/9, 2/9, 9/6) – an epic battle saw the more wily and experienced opponent take victory.
Chris O’Brien beat Bobby Pearson 3-2 (6/9, 6/9, 9/7, 9/4, 9/5) In an unbelievable encounter, O’Brien emerged shattered but victorious.
Simon Fletcher beat Andrew Smith 3-2 (2/9, 9/4, 5/9, 9/2, 10/8). Fletcher just managed to contain Smith’s awkward and clever shot-making.
John Childs beat Doug Terry 3-2 (5/9, 9/5, 9/3, 9/5, 9/0). Super-fit and fast Childs ground down Terry for a good win.
